Safe in Sound

by Jim Boggia

Inspired by the classic forms found on original vinyl pop LPs, Jim Boggia absorbed recordings from the 60s and 70s 'down to their molecular level' for his bluhammock music debut Safe In Sound. The release features writing collaborations and appearances by Aimee Mann and Emitt Rhodes and also includes guest artists Jill Sobule and guitarist Wayne Kramer of the seminal band The MC5. The 12 track album adds gracefully to Boggia's growing songwriting reputation which prompted the Philadelphia Weekly to write, 'Varying traces of the Beatles, the Raspberries, Big Star, Elvis Costello, Simon & Garfunkel and even Stevie Wonder find their way into Boggia's songwriting recipe, one that is firmly anchored in the then and now.'
On Safe In Sound, Boggia plays guitar and a vast array of other instruments such as the glockenspiel, ukulele, Mellotron, Optigan, piano, and toy keyboards. He incorporates these sounds within the standard verse/chorus/bridge structure resulting in his own new and innovative twist to pop music. Other guest musicians on the album include Pete Thomas from The Attractions, Justin Meldal-Johnsen, bassist with Beck's band, and Butch from the critically acclaimed band The EELS. The record was co-produced by Julian Coryell, who currently tours with Aimee Mann, and Joe Zook, whose other Production/Engineering/Mixing credits include Jewel, Rufus Wainwright, Courtney Love and Liz Phair.
In addition to his solo work, Boggia works on a number of highly successful performing and songwriting side projects. He co-wrote Glory for multi-platinum recording artist Jaci Velasquez, which later became a #1 Billboard hit. He has toured and/or collaborated with award winning artists such as Michelle Branch, Aimee Mann, Jill Sobule, Amanda Marshall, Juliana Hatfield, Bernadette Peters, and Carly Simon. Recently, he co-created the group 4 Way Street with Philadelphia songwriters Ben Arnold, Scott Bricklin and Joseph Parsons. The group released the album Pretzel Park receiving critical acclaim.
