With his new CD “Medallion”, Hank Woji stands out from the pack of singer/songwriters by conjuring a sound that is at the same time richly textured and intimate. Singing in a voice that is slightly hoarse and understated, Woji evokes the best elements of Arlo Guthrie and Cat Stevens. The generally high quality of the songwriting is at times almost overpowered by the lush arrangements of acoustic guitar, mandolin, saxophone, flutes and more, which range from the imaginative to the melodramatic...there is a wealth of enjoyable listening in the smoky latin feel of “Royal Love”, the Indian-flavored “Have You Seen the Taj Mahal?” and the undeniably joyous ramble of “And When We’re Dancing”. The superb guest musicianship and attention to detail in the production and arrangement of the songs make “Medallion” an enjoyable and inviting listening experience.
